Week 246 ( 9 May to 15 May 2008 )

Cathay’s cubs meeting their father

This week Cathay’s cubs got really active. At first Cathay took the cubs into the breeding centre when the nights started getting really cold again. In the morning, as the sun got out, she would take them out into the quarantine camp and keep them in the sun. During the day the cubs stayed in the pole shelter and when it got dark she took them into the breeding centre again. TigerWoods started pacing along the quarantine camp quite a lot. He and the cubs were quite curious of each other. As soon as Cathay turned her back, the cubs would sneak off to the fence where TigerWoods is pacing. They chuffed a lot at him, and he at them. This was the first time the cubs met TigerWoods.

TigerWoods was friendly and got shocked by the electric fence a couple of times because he wanted to get closer to the cubs. The only thing was that Cathay would not stand for this. Every time the cubs were a bit too close to TigerWoods according to her, she went and took them back to the pole shelter. But the cubs were persistent. Every time Cathay turned away, the cubs would go to TigerWoods again. Sometimes when she took the one cub to the pole shelter, the other one would go around the other side and go to TigerWoods again.

This week Hulooo was also given a new shelter. It is a fibreglass dome that’s in the shape of an igloo. When it was first put in, he seemed almost scared of it. He got used to it and inspected it, but he did not enter it yet. Madonna was pretty scared this week, she was in the bush area most of the time. She almost only came out to feed. But even then, she would take the carcass and pull it into the bush. 327 was also not seen that often, but he was seen pacing along the 9ha camp most of the times when he was seen.
