Week 293 ( 3rd Apr - 9th Apr 2009 )
The three brothers and the new camp
This week Hulooo, JenB and Coco was moved from the 0.5ha camp to the new 2ha camp.
Early in the week the long awaited 2 ha camp, which is inside the old 9ha camp, was finally finished and it was time to move the three brothers in. They first had to make a stop in the smaller camp in front of the 2ha camp. Hulooo didn’t waste too much time, he sniffed the gateway just to make sure everything was okay and then jumped through. He immediately started investigating the smaller camp. JenB followed not too long after Hulooo and after some time Coco did as well.
They all were so excited to be in another space than the 0.5ha camp that they completely forgot about the whole blesbok carcass that was suppose to lure them through. But clearly they did not need it.
They ran around like they were not used to being in that part of our camps but little did they know that it was originally part of the 9ha which they are quite familiar with. After some time passed, Hulooo began to show some interest in the carcass, but not for long.
Hulooo made some half hearted attempts to go through to the new 2ha camp but then decided that he would rather play with his brothers for a while longer. Just as we were about to leave the boys to discover the rest of the camp on their own, Hulooo went into the 2ha camp. He nervously walked around, sniffing everything. It then became too dark so we had to leave them to discover on their own for the night.
For the rest of the week, they were exploring the new 2ha camp and playing “hide and go seek” with us. Most of the mornings they were not even seen, just sneaking around in the dense vegetation of the stream running through the camps. Hulooo especially enjoyed the stream as he was extremely filthy one day after playing in mud and water. They spent most of their time in the thicket, just showing themselves for short periods.
All and all it seems like it was a wise move to move them into the 2ha camp, because they are enjoying it a lot.
