Week 332 (1st - 7th January 2010 )
Cathay and 327 mate and Hulooo is tricked out of his food
Cathay stood at the trough and whilst she was looking me in the eye she was feeling for the edge of the trough with a hind leg. Once she had located the edge she shifted her butt into the trough and lapped at the water in front of her chest. 327 crossed over to the trough to see if she had left enough space in the trough for him to join her and they chuffed at each other ecstatically, when he saw that there was none he left – muttering under his breath at her total lack of consideration. The next day after Cathay had taken refuge behind a bush, out of sight of the general public (me) 327 nonchalantly crossed to where she lay and after approaching her VERY carefully with chuffs aplenty she allowed him to mount her and they mated. Unfortunately I only had a partial visual but judging from the noise emanating from the pair I’d say the mate itself was successful.
Springbuck and Warthog was the brothers’ fare one morning and Hulooo headed straight for the Springbuck leaving Coco and JenB to each mumble a warthog. Coco then sat watching Hulooo pluck and formulated a plan to get his hands on the Springbuck. He had a drink at the nearby trough and suddenly both Hulooo and JenB developed an overwhelming thirst which they just had to quench. No sooner had Hulooo started lapping when Coco left the trough and purloined the Springbuck. Hulooo realised that he had been tricked and left the group with a deflated droop to his shoulders and toddled over to the fence seeking solace from me. Having actually managed to win the prize Coco lost interest and ambled around. I looked in on them later and found that Hulooo had retaken the Springbuck, whether it be by force or more devious means remains a mystery and your guess is a good as mine.
