Week 335 (22nd - 28th January 2010 )
327 meets his match and other snippets
During the week Madonna had had enough of 327 hogging all the food and formulated a plan for revenge. Early one morning Madonna was crouched at a bush with her back to her leftovers. 327 thought it the ideal opportunity to grab some munchies whilst she wasn’t looking and he brazenly walked towards the food thinking that she would cower in fright. He soon discovered that she was prepared to fight him tooth and nail for her leftovers and a ferocious snarl from her left him shuddering in his footsteps. Given a choice, he much preferred his hide without perforations and left in great haste. After her victory Madonna once again turned her back on her food.
One afternoon Cathay had been wallowing in the river and as a consequence she was covered in mud from head to toe. After having been told that she was no sight for sore eyes she rolled around in an effort to clean herself off but actually only succeeded in covering herself in bits of dry grass and dust – hardly an improvement. She on the other hand seemed satisfied with her new look and with a chuff set off along the fence.
In the middle of the week TigerWoods waited patiently for me to clean out his camp, scrub the water trough and refill it. I had no sooner let him back into his own camp when he picked up his bloody Springbuck and dumped it in the freshly cleaned trough – so much for fresh water. During the course of twenty minutes he dunked it several times below the surface and then dragged it out halfway, licked it dry and began feeding.
The gang was hanging around the gate at my arrival in the afternoon one day; perfectly happy in the pouring rain. A while later, they traipsed around aimlessly for a bit until JenB discovered a bee in his bonnet and chased Hulooo around. A wee bit later Hulooo and JenB stood up and whacked one another on the head; Coco refused to be drawn into the game and walked off to put as much distance between them and himself as possible.
Feeding time the next day they all thundered through the gate at the same time but Coco sought to gain an advantage and jumped over JenB – thus placing him in front and therefore closest to the carcass. His victory was short-lived, however. Hulooo and JenB joined him in the wink of an eye; before he could even contemplate dragging the carcass off someplace.
