Week 337 ( 5th - 11th February 2010 )

327 finds himself in uncharted territory and Coco carries his food into a tree

I opened the gate to Catkins and this elicited some chuffs from TW (which Cathay and 327 ignored). Cathay was first in and 327 hesitated a little; unsure of the territory on the other side. He did eventually cross and to celebrate their freedom Cathay chased him around. They then wandered off in the direction of the river with Cathay in the lead. 327 didn’t trust all the wide open space and returned to the gate. She soon disappeared into the trees and 327 paced with TW. Later in the afternoon 327 was still trying to keep TigerWoods company, but TW kept on walking away. Not once during their sojourn in Catkins did 327 progress further than the furthest corner of TW’s camp. They both then returned to the Breeding Centre and 327 re-annexed the building.

Coco began playing with his food, bouncing into the air with the buck hanging by its neck from his mouth and dropping it with a thud. He then folded the buck in half and we heard its back break. Moments later he waddled as fast as he could to the pepper tree whilst dragging the buck it between his legs. He then dragged the buck up into the pepper tree. There he played a little more with it until it fell off the branch. As it thudded to the ground both Hulooo and JenB raced over to the tree but before they could even cover four paces Coco had already retrieved it and was preparing to drag it back up when he saw himself become the centre of his brothers’ attention. He scared his brothers off with a ferocious growl and jumped back into the tree with his springbuck. He dropped and retrieved his buck once more – again drawing his brothers’ attention but fortunately for him JenB suddenly changed his mind and chased Hulooo around the camp leaving Coco to eat in peace.
